Writing

I am currently working on a book about staying healthy emotionally.

I’m revisiting how I felt back in 2014 when I became so depressed that I went to a hospital for almost a week, but I’m also recording the things I’ve learned in the years since then that keep me from going back to such hopelessness.

Please pray for me as I write, and feel free to share your own experience with depression, anxiety, or another mental illness. I’d love to pray for you as you journey to better mental health.

I contribute a “Mental Health Minute” column to our local newspapers (The Volga Tribune and others in the area). I also have enjoyed writing articles and blog posts, Keys for Kids and Unlocked devotionals, short stories, and poems.

In 2021, I was honored to have a chapter included in the compilation book Life, Repurposed: Stories of Grace, Hope, and Restored Faith. Michelle Rayburn did a beautiful job editing and typesetting this inspiring book.

If you love to write, I highly recommend attending a writers conference to connect with other writers and learn the craft.

Here are some that I’ve enjoyed over the years:

Cedar Falls Christian Writers Conference (http://www.cfcwc.org) is held in June each year in Cedar Falls, Iowa. This conference is held at a beautiful conference center and provides an intimate setting where you can get all of your questions answered as you hone your craft.

I used to attend the Breathe Christian Writers Conference in Grand Rapids, Michigan every October, but that event is no longer held.

I had always wanted to attend the Christian Writers Conference at Mount Hermon in California. While the original conference no longer exists, the reins were picked up by Robynne Miller and the “Inspire Christian Writers” group. I attended the Vision Christian Writers Conference in 2022 and 2023. Such a great conference! (https://vcwconf.com/)
